Web Design Process

what

1. Planning Stages

Client Interview/Research

Every project starts with a plan, and this is accomplished by research and a careful interview with you. I want to know as much as possible about your goals and/or your business, your design aesthetic, and your competitors.

Once all this has been determined, I can start working up the site structure and navigation.

2. Design

Prototype/Graphic Design

This is the fun part, where I take everything I have gleaned from our interview and, using the site structure and navigation that have been mapped out, start working up rough ideas for the look and feel of the site.

Using rough mockups and your feedback, I create a finished design and prepare it for coding.

integration

3. Integration

XHTML/CSS/CMS

Once the final design has been approved, I get my hands dirty by diving into the nuts and bolts of the project, which is coding it for the web (be it XHTML, for a Wordpress blog, an eCommerce solution or something else entirely). Depending on the depth of the site, this could take days or even a few weeks.

Once the project is coded out, I will start adding content. This stage may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to complete, depending on the size of the project and the availability of content.

Every website that I create is built to be cross-platform browser-compliant and, if dynamic, easily used and updated by you or your administrator.

Analysis/Optimization

The most gratifying part! I don’t step away here. Instead, I make sure that you are satisfied with the project and, in the case of dynamic sites, are comfortable in all aspects of site maintenance. This is also the time that I can start seeing how effective the site is at getting your message out, and tweak any optimization strategies to better suit your needs.
